Aesthetically, I've always enjoyed the "Sword-Maiden" type character trope for as long as I could remember. There's something about a beautiful woman holding a sword that never gets old for me. I tried to find some balance between something Fantasy and something practical, and this is the design I ultimately ended up landing on. I think as an artist, it's really easy to just keep adding and adding things until soon, before you know it, there's just too much clutter everywhere and all the details overwhelm what's most important. So, something that I try very hard to do is not "over-design" a character. My goal is to convey what the character is in as "little" as possible with some "slight" flare to it. I want the viewer to be able to take a quick look and instantly know exactly what the character is, how she functions, and what type of personality she likely has. Sometimes this makes my characters appear plain, maybe it's my personal style, but I think that's OK as long as the player can identify what the character is easily.
This character was also my attempt to try out "cloth-physics" in Unreal5 - She was also my 2nd attempt to try and get some semblance of working "hair-physics". That being said, while not perfect, the final results ended up working surprisingly well for what they were. For those of you who are interested in using her for your own projects, you can find the full Unreal project file can be found here:
